On Thursday, India's Rohan Bopanna made history at the US Open. Bopanna, along with his doubles partner Matthew Ebden, beat France's Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert 7-6 (7), 6-2 to reach the final of the Grand Slam.

By doing so, Bopanna became the oldest man to qualify for a Grand Slam final in the Open Era, at the age of 43 years and six months. The previous oldest man was Daniel Nestor, at 43 years and four months.

If Bopanna and Ebden beat Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury in Friday's final, Bopanna will also become the oldest man to win a Grand Slam. But currently, who is the oldest player to win a Grand Slam title in the Open Era?

Who are the oldest doubles Grand Slam champions in tennis?

With the advent of professionalism in sport, and constantly advancing sport science techniques, athletes are able to stay fit and in their prime for longer than ever.

One record that Bopanna will be looking to break is that of the oldest man to win a Grand Slam title, singles or doubles.

That record is currently held by Jean-Julien Rojer, who won the 2022 French Open men's doubles title, alongside Marcelo Arevola, at the age of 40 years and nine months.

Name Age Major
Jean-Julien Roger 40 years, 9 months  2022 French Open
Mike Bryan 40 years, 4 months  2018 US Open
Leander Paes 40 years, 2 months 2013 US Open

The record for oldest player ever to win a Grand Slam, however, is still some way away for Bopanna. Coincidentally, Paes is a part of this record as well.

Czech legend Martina Navratilova remains the oldest player, man or woman, to ever lift a Grand Slam title.

In 2003, she won the Australian Open mixed doubles title along with Leander Paes, at the age of 46 years and 261 days. If Bopanna wants to break this record, it would take a monumental effort to do so.

When is Rohan Bopanna's next match?

Rohan Bopanna will be in action next during the men's doubles final at the US Open alongside Matthew Ebden. The match is scheduled to start at 9:30pm IST on Friday, 8 September.
